Spiritual Growth

We are told in the Bible...

"…be filled with the knowledge of [God's] will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so that [we] walk in a manner worthy of the Lord...bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God." (Colossians 1:9-12). Here at Grace Church, we believe this whole-heartedly. So, here are some ways to connect to God in such a manner:

Weekend Services

Click here for Weekend Service times

Our weekend services are where we gather together to worship God and experience relevant teaching from the Bible as to how to live lives that will honor and glorify Him.

When you arrive at Grace Church, look for the designated parking places near the entrance for first- or second-time guests. Upon entering the building, any of our friendly greeters or Information Counter attendants can direct you to our Worship Center and/or Kidzone, our program for children. (You may want to arrive 15 minutes early the first time you check your children into Kidzone to allow time to complete the short form that allows us to enter your children into our security system.)

Our services typically begin with a time of worship music. We have a live band playing contemporary and post-rock music. Singing is just one expression of worshipping God. Many people will sing/clap along with the music, and some will quietly reflect on the lyrics. Feel free to do whatever makes you feel most comfortable.

The teaching time (or sermon) features a Bible-based message that you will find relevant and straightforward. We firmly believe Scripture is as alive and pertinent today as it was when it was written long ago.

The teaching and worship at Grace Church are meant to guide you to a fuller understanding of how deeply we are loved by God, and the new identity and purpose that are gained through having a personal and dynamic relationship with Him.

At Grace Church, we are all about living and teaching the Great Commandment (Matthew 22:37-39) and the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20). Our desire is to serve those who are far from Christ and at all times point everyone who walks through our doors to God in the hopes of transformation into people who are committed to following Him. We welcome you to join us on the journey!

Prayer

What is prayer? Prayer is talking to God, but the conversation is all about trusting Him, worshiping Him, thanking Him, confessing our sins to Him, seeking His guidance and direction for our lives, and presenting our doubts and concerns to Him. Prayer is also listening to God; His Spirit opens our eyes to the depth of what He has said in Scripture.

Why is prayer important? First and foremost, God commands us to pray (Ephesians 6:19-20; 1 Thessalonians 5:17, and many more passages). Prayer is the basic expression of faith for a Christian.

Want to get involved in prayer? You can pray at any time (Hebrews 4:16), but we highly encourage praying with fellow believers, too. We offer three opportunities for open congregational prayer during weekend services: Saturdays at 5:30 pm in the Conference Room, Sundays at 8:00 am in the Adult Ed room (next to Crosswalk Bookstore), and Sundays at 9:40 am in the Conference Room (check with the Info Counter for directions to the Conference Room). Our weekly Community Groups include times of prayer - contact Karen Sundquist at 747-9000 x204 to find a group in your area. If you would like to pray for church-wide requests, join our Prayer Chain by contacting Marcie Devine.

Community Groups

The purpose of Grace Church is the Great Commandment and Great Commission. Our strategy to implement this purpose is to connect to God, community and mission. Community Groups are Grace Church's primary opportunity to engage in the "community" element of our strategy. So this begs the question: what is a community Group?

A Community Group is a weekly meeting in a home where a group of 10-15 people gather for 1 ½ to 2 hours to accomplish the following:

  • To Build Relationships

  • The normal Christian jargon is fellowship. But since that word is overused, we stress the word relationship. God has designed us to live and grow in community...

  • To Study God's Word

  • Core to every Community Group's meeting is the study of the Bible. God gave us His Word in order for us to know Him, to know who we are and to know why we are here...

  • To Be on Mission Together

  • An important aspect of growing in God's will and growing in relationship with each other is to spend time on service projects together. We call that being on mission together...

Missions Opportunities

Join Grace Church on mission weekly, in Reno and the world...

Jesus healed the sick, fed the hungry, showed compassion, stood up for what was right, and demonstrated true love for people. We desire to walk in His footsteps, being and doing the same. That's why we're passionate about coming alongside others to help make a difference in our church, city, and world. Whether it's caring for children in the church, caring for orphans and widows, supporting outreach to prostitutes, or gathering money for water wells in Africa – it's all for the name and fame of Jesus!
